Grandparents: Resources
There Is Help Available

A grandparent first facing an active caregiver role for young family members may feel adrift, but there are programs and benefits available.

The Grandparents as Parents Support Group is facilitated by grandparents and other relatives caring for children is the Sioux Falls area.  The group meets monthly and regularly invites experts in to address issues relevant to the members.

There are also public benefits for children even if their caregivers do not have legal guardianship or custody.  They may be eligible for financial assistance, food stamps, health insurance or other benefits.  Please contact your local Social Services office, or visit the state social services website for more information.

A number of national resources have information via phone or online.
