Drug Free Kids

When to Do What

Young people are using drugs - not just in major metropolitan areas, but across South Dakota, from the cities to small towns to farming communities.  Students learn about the dangers of various drugs in school, but you play a vital role in this process.  The more parents educate themselves on the current popular substances and the signs and symptoms of their use, the more they can help their children .

Not all young people experiment or abuse alcohol and other drugs, but many do. In our area, the top four substances used most often are tobacco, alcohol, marijuana and Meth.

Other drugs are available and used by young people in our area.  Some are legal with a prescription; some are available as over the counter medications; still others are only legal as research drugs in a completely closed facility and have no medicinal value.
