There are fun and silly holidays in addition to the serious ones we remember each year.  This is a partial list of some of the unique holidays as well as the traditional favorites. 

July is Anti-Boredom Month, Air Conditioning Appreciation Days, Cell Phone Courtesy Month, Family Reunion Month, National Baked Beans Month, National “Doghouse Repairs” Month, and lots of Food-Related Designations including: Blueberry Month, Grilling Month, Ice Cream Month, Hot Dog Month and Horseradish Month!

This week is Be Nice to New Jersey Week, National Freedom Appreciation Week, Take Charge of Change Week, National Ice Cream Week  

Friday, July 4
American Independence Day – Commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.  Read the full text of the Declaration and review the history leading up to America’s first birthday.
Tom Sawyer Fence-Painting Day – While you might remember Tom’s whitewashing duties as comical, it does serve to remind us that attitude counts when it comes to chores.  Read the chapter online!
Earth at Aphelion – Marking the day that the earth is farthest from the sun.  It may seem odd to celebrate this in the middle of summer, but our temperature is influenced by the angle of the earth to the sun, not the distance.
Sidewalk Egg Frying Day"You know it’s really hot when..."  There is actually a festival celebrating this activity in Arizona.
Alice in Wonderland Day – Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (who took the alias Lewis Carroll) first told the story of Alice’s Adventures Underground  to the Liddell sisters in 1862.  The story became known as Alice in Wonderland and was published in July 1865. 

Saturday, July 5
Salvation Army Day – Commemorating the day in 1865 that William Booth formed the Salvation Army in London, England.

Sunday, July 6
Republican Party Day Celebrating the organization of the new Republican Party traditionally believed to have occurred on July 6, 1854 in Jackson, Michigan. 

Monday, July 7
Chocolate Day – Commemorating the introduction of chocolate in Europe in 1550

Tuesday, July 8
Ice Cream Sundae Day – Celebrating the anniversary of the day in 1881 that the first ice cream sundae was served in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
Liberty Bell Commemoration – Marking the day in 1835 that the Liberty Bell cracked while being rung at the funeral of John Marshall.
Gold Platter Day – Remembering the day in 1958 that the Recording Industry Association of America awarded the first official gold album for the Oklahoma! soundtrack. 

Wednesday, July 9
Rock n’ Roll Day – Celebrating the 1956 debut of Dick Clark’s American Bandstand in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
E-Z Donut Day – Marking the day in 1872 that John F. Blondel of Thomaston, Me., received a patent for a doughnut cutter.  

Thursday, July 10
Clerihew Day – Celebrating the 1875 birth of Edmund Clerihew Bentley, the inventor of the frivolous four-line poetry form that often is biographical (somewhat).  

Friday, July 11
Cheer Up Day – Reminds us to share a smile.  Start today, and keep it up!
World Population Day – The United Nations Population Fund began this day to call attention to the growing numbers across the globe and raise awareness of associated issues.

Saturday, July 12
Simplicity Day - Celebrating the birthday (1817) of Henry David Thoreau, and reminding us to simplify our lives.
Paper Bag Day – Commemorating the day in 1889 the paper bag manufacturing machine was patented.
World Pea Shooting Championship – If you are unable to travel to Witcham, England to enjoy the 38th annual contest on the village green, hold a mini-contest with peashooters at home.

Sunday, July 13
International Puzzle Day – Celebrate the 1944 birth of inventor Emo Rubik today by relaxing with your favorite kind of puzzle
Barbershop Music Appreciation Day – Marking the day in 1945 that Edna Mae Anderson of Tulsa, Oklahoma invited some women to her home to sing. Their husbands were members of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA) and the ladies wanted to participate in the singing fun and enjoyment. On that evening, the "Sweet Adelines" were born.
